Mechanical engineering approach and book list

Approach: If one has decided to take mechanical engineering as optional, one should be prepared to devote a big chunk of their time to the subject. My approach towards mechanical engineering was mainly practicing numerical and making and updating my notes. Instead of solving numericals from multiple books, I solved numericals of one book multiple times. I used to start my chapter with Made Easy handwritten notes. Then to book and then to previous year. I used to mark important questions in the books At the later stage of my preparation, I start with my notes to previously marked questions from the book and then to previous year questions. Book list Paper 1: Mechanics of rigid bodies: No particular book. Questions from this topic is regularly asked in exam and most of the time they are compulsory questions. Background : Attempt: 5th attempt, 2nd interview Work Experience: 10 months in Caterpillar India. Unemployed since may 2012. Hobby: badminton, watching animated movies. My scorecard

Prelims scorecard: I attempted 83 questions in Paper I. Most probably 69 were correct and 15 were wrongs. Mains Scorecard:  In essay paper I wrote on the following topics Destiny of a nation is shaped in its classrooms. Social media is inherently a selfish medium. In GS papers, I attempted all the questions but couldn't do justice with 1 or 2 questions in each papers. In Mechanical paper, My correct attempt was of 430 marks, did some silly mistakes in 40 marks, half attempt in 20 marks and left one 10 mark question. My Personality test was in Bhonsale Sir's board. I was expecting 120-130 marks in essay, 430-450 in GS, 310+ in optional and 160-165 in interview.

About me

Hi, My name is Anshu Kumar Srivastava. I did my graduation in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi in 2011. I worked for one year and then left my job for civil services preparation. I cleared civil services examination (CSE)-2017. I got AIR 163. It was my 5th attempt. I cleared prelims in all the 5 attempts, appeared in interview in 2015 and 2017 exam. Got a rank in 2017 exam In my first two attempts my optional was public administration which I changed to Mechanical engineering. I got many request for my preparation strategy on different social media platform so I decided to create this blog. I hope this will help future aspirants in their preparation and they will be able to avoid the mistakes which I made during my preparation.
